Community Gardens - on Network NEWS

Last night's evening news on ABC did a wonderful segment on the importance of community gardens as places for people to grow their own produce and to save money in these tough economic times. This morning I posted "our story" as a comment to the ABC on-line article noting how Community Gardens in Cedar Rapids can be the glue that begins to knit back our neighborhoods.

Tom Cline, Persistent Gardner -- Cheers to you!

Tom Cline is a perfect example of the can-do spirit and relentless optimism that will not just rebuild Cedar Rapids but help it to grow into a new and better place to live and work. For his energy and enthusiasm, we are recognizing his contribution to Cedar Rapids by awarding him the unofficial "Rebuild And Grow Community Hero" award.

Starting a Community Garden

Community gardens are neighborhood projects that transform empty lots into exciting green places. Community gardens improve the neighborhood, reduce crime and vandalism, and connect kids to their food and to their environment. Neighbors work side by side with neighbors to grow food and flowers. The shared experience brings people closer together.
